what is artistic research about?

This project experiments with different arts-based research approaches to allow for a rich and experientialist insight into the world of media.

why

Media research has long understood the role of media in specific binary categories that do not allow us to capture the many ways the practices are transcending these categories, including such distinctions as: entertainment versus journalism; producer versus consumer; objectivity versus activism; amateur versus professional maker. We need a perspective that allows us to do justice to the cross-media worlds where disciplines, styles, genres and roles are combined.

how

We develop different arts-based research methods and collaborate with artists in the three phases of research: data collection, data analysis and presentation of the insights. In this way we gain a truly collaborative insight into media, and benefit from the way in which the arts allow for an alternative way of researching and presenting reality.
